The Schroeder Reunion Newsletter
All the stuff we could dig up!

The Schroeder 2001 reunion will be held August 11, 2001 at Oxford Lake, New Jersey

Excuses, Excuses
Not sure what happened to November, January , and March's newsletters. The November newsletter was lost in the Foss annual Maine hunting trip and Christmas rush. The January newsletter was about half done but editor was getting sick every other week. (Thought it was colds Katherine was bringing home from day care.) In March the editor was diagnosed with pneumonia and it took awhile to recover. Jokes about the election don't seem as funny now so the May newsletter is a fresh start.

Treasurers Report

There has been no changes since the last report.

Reunion Planning Committee Report

The committee reports several lessons have been learned from the last reunion. Number 1 is don't put out food unless it is intended to be eaten right then and there. There has been some dissappointment with the action as a reunion fundraising effort. If a auction item fetches less than it cost the doner feels it would have been better to just give the money directly to the reunion treasury. The Planning committee has been disccussing several alternatives. One is to have a carnival theme which each 'delegation' sonsering a game. (ring toss, darts, and the like) Another is to have a blind auction/raffle with peaple buying a number of tickets and each putting in a number of tickets for each item. THe drawn ticket would win each item. No decisions have been made yet, reccomendations or suggestions are welcome.

Food Committee Report

The food committee is lost in cyberspace and has not checked in.

Schroeder Movie Project

No real work on this project. A little frustrated with the over the quality of the scans. Because of the age of the film just running it in the projector generates a lot of 'whiskers'. (The newest film is 30 years old). The film also has a lot of dirt accumulated from the many times it has been run in a projector anyway. It can only be cleaned with an alcohol based cleaner that evaporates very fast. A single reel is 400 feet so cleaning it is difficult anyway. There is also a problem matching the speed of the film vs video. The 8 millimeter film is shot at 24 frames per second and video is 30 frames per second. You have to speed up the film to avoid flicker on the video which makes the short film segments even shorter.

Schroeder Pictures

While the editor was laid up in March finished digitizing some negatives borrowed from Karl Schroeder. Many of these were the negatives of the pictures already on the website. However many of the negatives appeared to be of Jack Schroeder's family and friends. There are about 58 sets of negatives, around 1000 photos. They will be put on the web site as soon as possible.

Website News

Tried again to get the web address schroeder.org but the owner is not willing to sell it. It is owned by a Schroeder not related to us. There has been a lot in the new lately about privacy on the web. The editor takes this seriously. There is a balance between providing some information and too much information. An example is the fact that the reunion date and home addresses. By themselves they are useful pieces of information for everybody. Put them together and you know when to rob those houses. Another example is the web page giving email addresses. It is very useful if you would like to contact a relative. But it could also be used by spammers to send you unwanted email. The site currently has addresses, phone numbers, and birthdays in some of the newsletter archives. They are there because the editor tried to record the newsletters verbatim. If there are any concerns over this please let the editor know.

Schroeder Shorts

Jim Wohlback passed away 9/7/99.

Kim Kavanaugh (Karl's daughter) has an Avon wesite at:
www.youravon.com/kkavanaugh

Anthony Richard's (Ed's son Bobby's daughter Jennifer Burke's son) baseball team made the playoffs. He was asked to play in the 11/12 year old league. Pretty good for a 9 year old!

Adam Schroeder's (Karl's son Richard's son) band played their first concert recently and there is a story and picture about them here at the website:

http://www.bestofwny.com/kids/kids.htm

Adam is on the right wearing a red hat.

Amy Schroeder (Karl's son Richard's daughter) has her picture in the Meadowmount School of Music website:

Amy is the tallest girl, second from the right.

Jennifer Davis (Carolyn's daughter) will be administering The Summer institute for Leadership. See the websites:

A surprise birthday party was held for Maura Foss (Carolyn's son Lloyd's wife) on St. Patrick's day. She was taken completely by surprise and now worries how she could have married someone so sneaky.

Allyssa Foss (Carolyn's son Andy's daughter had party for her third birthday May 22, 2001. Everyone had a good time.

There is an unconfirmed rumor that there was a Schroeder born in Texas last November.

Ask Katie (Advice for the undr 5 set)

Dear Katie,
My mommy grownup is playing with a "budget". I have heard new words like "Milk Monster" and "toy store shopaholic" and "cutbacks". I just had my hair cut back and want a new "puter" game. So what does this mean?
  Signed,
    Dare they downsize me

Dear Downsized,
A Budget makes "money" which is the grownups favorite toy, cause you can trade it for other toys. Grownups want more & more money as they get more & more old. Speaking of old, you can get rid of a cutback by saying the magic words "there are rest homes and there are good rest homes". It's ok if you don't know the meaning of the words - they'll know! Try it.

Ooh I see something that I can reach and I do not know what it is but I am going to try to eat it!

  Bye-Bye,
    Katie
