Several people have made suggestions for the next reunion. The executive committee has already decided to implement the first - A schedule so everyone knows when things will happen. The preliminary schedule is:
|
I want to emphasize that this schedule is preliminary only. Any suggestions are greatly welcome.
Caroline Smith (Carolyn's daughter) has suggested to try Pizza as the meal for the next reunion. We would have it delivered. The food committee will look into the costs and have a report for the next newsletter. Joan Bamford has suggested replacing the piñata with candy toss. The candy toss would be done by ages with special prize candy for each age group. The editor agrees the piñata was definitely too dangerous this year. Golf clubs and children do not mix. The piñata is a longstanding tradition. If it were made safer (Think wiffleball bats) we could probably keep it. The executive committee would like some more opinions before making a final decision. The editor would like to start a guestbook. This is a book where each person/family would be able to sign in and record their thoughts about the reunion. Like the group picture it does not seem like much now it will be treasured in the future. My brothers and father (Carolyn's sons and husband) go on a hunting trip each year where there is a guestbook in the camp. We get to see who was there and how they did the week before us and add our own contributions to the history. My contribution a few years ago was:
Almost wrecked truck on drive into camp. Sick all week. Fell in woods and twisted knee. Did not see any deer. Food was good.
Sorry, the treasury committee has not met. We hope to have a full report in the November newsletter.
David (Tom's son) and Roxanne will spend a week in October in the States visiting their parents and attending a wedding of one of David's classmates. |

Nancy & Tom Schroeder spent a great week at Sacketts Harbor after the reunion. Tommy (Tom's Son) is hard at work on General Stonewall's house located above Fort A.P. Hill.
Lyne Foss's (Carolyn's son Andy's wife) grandfather and her brother both passed away in July. Our condolences to Lyne. |
Now that we have had twenty-five of them the editor is curious about
the origins of the reunion. His opinion is that the first reunion
occurred at Carolyn and Lloyd Foss's house after Pap-Pap's funeral. The
Original Nine decided to get together once a year thereafter. If the
editor is wrong, let me know.
One of the first things you get when you have a child now is a video camera. The editor, in his characteristic, yeah I need another expensive hobby, has jumped in with both feet. Several years (more like 10!!) ago his parents copied all their home movies to videotape and each child got a copy. Videotape is nice but digital video is the wave of the future. The advantage of digital is that copies are exactly the same as the original. Another advantage is you can add a sound track to silent movies. The editor is putting together the ability to convert home movies to both videotape and CD that can be played on the computer. (Eventually DVD disk but affordable versions of that technology is still 2-3 years away). If anyone has home movies or videos of Schroeder Events (Weddings, Anniversaries, or parties) and would like them included on a Schroeder Movie please contact the editor. |

My daddy says I can help. Me and Willy
and Eddy and Alex and Dale and Lissa had a meeting while you big people
weren't paying attention to us. We have a lot of questions so I decided
to write an advice column.
