Reunion 2000 suggestions

Several people have made suggestions for the next reunion. The executive committee has already decided to implement the first - A schedule so everyone knows when things will happen. The preliminary schedule is:
12:00 - 1:00 - Social Hour
12:00 - 4:00 - Visiting
Swimming
Volleyball
Quoits
Cards
Exchange Table
3:00 - 3:15 - Relationship Bee
3:15 - 3:30 - Bubble Gum Contest
3:30 - 4:00 - Piñata
4:00 - 5:00 - Dinner
4:30 - 5:00 - 50-50
Annual Meeting
5:00 - 5:30 - Pictures
5:30 - 6:30 - Auction
6:30 - 7:00 - Clean Up

I want to emphasize that this schedule is preliminary only. Any suggestions are greatly welcome.

Caroline Smith (Carolyn's daughter) has suggested to try Pizza as the meal for the next reunion. We would have it delivered. The food committee will look into the costs and have a report for the next newsletter.

Joan Bamford has suggested replacing the piñata with candy toss. The candy toss would be done by ages with special prize candy for each age group. The editor agrees the piñata was definitely too dangerous this year. Golf clubs and children do not mix. The piñata is a longstanding tradition. If it were made safer (Think wiffleball bats) we could probably keep it. The executive committee would like some more opinions before making a final decision.

The editor would like to start a guestbook. This is a book where each person/family would be able to sign in and record their thoughts about the reunion. Like the group picture it does not seem like much now it will be treasured in the future.

My brothers and father (Carolyn's sons and husband) go on a hunting trip each year where there is a guestbook in the camp. We get to see who was there and how they did the week before us and add our own contributions to the history. My contribution a few years ago was:

Almost wrecked truck on drive into camp. Sick all week. Fell in woods and twisted knee. Did not see any deer. Food was good.

Treasurer's Report

Sorry, the treasury committee has not met. We hope to have a full report in the November newsletter.

Schroeder Shorts

David (Tom's son) and Roxanne will spend a week in October in the States visiting their parents and attending a wedding of one of David's classmates.

Nancy & Tom Schroeder spent a great week at Sacketts Harbor after the reunion.

Tommy (Tom's Son) is hard at work on General Stonewall's house located above Fort A.P. Hill.

Kathy Cohen, Heidi Fritts, and Mary Scheel (Joan's Daughters) went to Florida to visit their sister, Jill Bamford, for five days in August. They had a wonderful time. In the meantime, Grandparents Burns and Joan babysat for Heidi's boys, Edward and William. From all reports, Burns and Joan needed some "resting up."

Lyne Foss's (Carolyn's son Andy's wife) grandfather and her brother both passed away in July. Our condolences to Lyne.

Reunion History

Now that we have had twenty-five of them the editor is curious about the origins of the reunion. His opinion is that the first reunion occurred at Carolyn and Lloyd Foss's house after Pap-Pap's funeral. The Original Nine decided to get together once a year thereafter. If the editor is wrong, let me know.
The reunions have been held at Camp Hugh Beaver, Marlin/Harts lake, and Oxford Lake. Who attended the reunions? The editor has missed two: 1978 (In the ARMY stationed in Germany), and 1984 (enjoying balmy Yuma Arizona). Group photos were started in 1980. If you have any photos of the early (or any) reunions the editor would like to borrow them to make copies (digital so I can give you both picture and a diskette or CD with a digital copies)

Schroeder Movie Project

One of the first things you get when you have a child now is a video camera. The editor, in his characteristic, yeah I need another expensive hobby, has jumped in with both feet. Several years (more like 10!!) ago his parents copied all their home movies to videotape and each child got a copy. Videotape is nice but digital video is the wave of the future. The advantage of digital is that copies are exactly the same as the original. Another advantage is you can add a sound track to silent movies. The editor is putting together the ability to convert home movies to both videotape and CD that can be played on the computer. (Eventually DVD disk but affordable versions of that technology is still 2-3 years away). If anyone has home movies or videos of Schroeder Events (Weddings, Anniversaries, or parties) and would like them included on a Schroeder Movie please contact the editor.

Ask Katie (Advice for the under 5 Set)

Photo of Katherine FossMy daddy says I can help. Me and Willy and Eddy and Alex and Dale and Lissa had a meeting while you big people weren't paying attention to us. We have a lot of questions so I decided to write an advice column.

Dear Katie,
The American Pediatric Association says TV is bad for us and Mommy and Daddy wont let me watch my favorite show Beverly Hills 90210 (I Love Dillon!!) And whenever I try to relax at the end of a hard day of looking cute by eating the remote control I accidentally change the channel. What do I do?
         Signed,
            Channel Surfer Chick

Dear Channel Chick,
Being cable connected myself I feel your pain. Strategy is what you need. When watching 90210 be quiet, occasionally laugh, and play with your toes. Mommy and Daddy will easily tolerate the TV for some peace and quiet - and a Kodak moment. About the remote, look around, there's always more than one of those things. Chewing on the VCR remote will only change the channel on the VCR, and not the TV so you can relax and watch your show. And since you stopped Daddy from recording wrestling he will have more time to play with you!

Ooh I see something that I can reach and I do not know what it is but I am going to try to eat it!

        Bye-Bye,
            Katie
