GOINGS ON
One of the reasons this newsletter was so late in coming (actually a
whole season, I missed winter) is because, aside from being really busy
with my family, I haven't heard of any news.
I talk to my mother once a week and she tries to keep me abreast of
what's going on around town but not very much of it seems newsletter
worthy. But here it goes anyway....these are the bits and peices of
information I have collected over the past season.
Uncle Ed was sick this winter while in Florida.
Liinda and Pat Wadsworth adopted a little nine month old boy.
Charles Foss crashed into some really gravely gravel on his motorcycle
and had to go and get stiches in his forehead.
Lisa and Charles Foss are active foster parents in the Warren county.
Presently they have three boys ages 5,4, and 15 months.
Jack Schroeder is traveling alot.
Tommy Jr. needs a job, please help!
Karen Z. is selling Discovery Toys - who also have anew line of active
wear for kids.
And for some actual first hand news - Virginia, Mary and JOan spent
President's Day weekend visiting Washington DC. They visited the US
Holocaust Museum, the Air & Space Musuem, the Capitol, the Botonic
Gardens, the East Wing of the Nat'l Gallery of Art, and the American
History Museum. |
Long before Christianity, the Anglo-Saxons in northern Europe held a
festival in honor of Eostre, the goddess of springtime. After the time
of Christ, and the beginning of Christianity, the name Easter, meaning
"new beginning," was kept for recognizing the day of the Resurrection,
the day Jesus Christ arose from the dead.
In A.D. 525 the Easter date was decreed to be the Sunday following the
first full moon after March 21, which is the spring equinox. Easter was
not celebrated widely as a holiday in the U.S. until after the Civil War.
For many, the religious significance of the Christian Easter has given
rise to distinctively religious rituals and celebrations. But some of the
traditional sumbols of the holiday cross religious and cultural lines.
The egg has always been a symbol of new life, and a feast of eggs was
used to honor Eostre. Colored eggs were rolled over fields to help make
the earth fertile.
The tradion of the Easter rabbits is also very old. According to legend,
Eostre's favorite animal was alarge bird. But one day when the bird
angered her, she changed it into a rabbit. Thus we have the comnbination
of rabbits and nests with colored eggs. Chocolate eggs were introduced
around 1880.
Tip of the Day:
Hard-boiled eggs are good 3-4 days at room temperature; up to ten days
refrigerated.
